Biography:
Lily Ryan received her PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2020. Her dissertation, titled “Fact and Fiction in Mexican Film: 1970s, 2000s,†examines nine auteur films that are formally classified as fiction, but that contain cinematic techniques frequently found in documentary. This work traces the trajectory of Mexican film history from the 1970s (which is frequently considered the weakest period of Mexican film) to the industry’s success three decades later. More broadly, she is interested in interactions between Latin American media in the 20th and 21st centuries. She holds a BA in Spanish and Latin American Literatures and Languages from New York University.
